We spotted this herd of cape buffalo while canoeing down the Zambezi River at Mana Pools, Zimbabwe. We stopped paddling and slowly let the canoes drift towards the shore. The buffalos were on alert, checking us out. You don't want to startle or mess with cape buffalos, they are very aggressive. This was a dominant female, and soon the oldest male came up to the front of the crowd. They did ease up a bit as we sat there, but never stopped watching us. That is Zambia in the background across the river.
