I was in Mongolia with the ecotourism group Earthwatch to do animal counts on the Ikh Nart nature reserve, on the Steppes, just on the eastern edge of the Gobi desert. We also set out nets and caught up argali sheep and ibex. These were the local herdsmen the project employed who made that possible. They start out on motorcycle, and as the animals approach the net, the men on horses take over and drive the animals into the nets. Any animals captured were weighed, measured, tagged, fitted with a radio collar and released, all happening in a short time frame with no harm to the animals.
